Recently a new driver came through training and made a comment which was a serious complement worth noting. He said, “In our first conversation over the phone you talked to me about the business for 45 minutes and just gave me all kinds valuable information, and I thought, any guy with this much confidence to talk to a stranger and give up information is a serious expert, and I couldn’t wait to actually come to the training class.”
What’s funny is we barley remember that first 45 minute conversation because we talk to so many new drivers. But the comment was greatly appreciated, and re-affirms our commitment to helping new drivers get started into the hotshot auto hauling business.
The reality is that our “getting started” new driver conversations may take different shapes and forms, but in all the calls we highlight a few key points that are consistent every time.
- Learn Before Burn $$
- It Will Always Take Longer Than You Think
- Success Is Best Achieved, When Failure Is Not An Option
These starter tips could be expanded greatly, but the gist of it is this; don’t spend any money on equipment until you have a good idea what you’re doing, the regulations are overwhelming and getting started always takes longer than beginners project, and the best way to fail is start out “part time.”
We have always been committed to a training program that gives new drivers the best chance for success in a tough business, but it also good to hear the sometimes long first phone calls are hitting the mark too.
