From the standpoint of trucking, navigating New Jersey is chaos, the roads are a mangled mess of spaghetti logic with a township system and addresses often not even recognized by even the latest GPS updates. The state troopers dress like jack booted clowns, reminiscent of Nazi brown shirts with their hilarious looking over the shoulder leather belt strapped uniforms. For those brave enough to venture into the Port of Newark… there are no words to completely describe this potholed mud pit run by union bosses.
If you decide to run into New Jersey bring security… you will need it. We’had had tied down straps stolen out of a tool box during a 5-minute bathroom stop on the New Jersey Turnpike, ramp pins stolen at an auction, and now the latest event a truck DEF port fowled with diesel fuel, an act of vandalism that completely disables a truck.
Why is it this way in New Jersey and not the 20-30 other states in the eastern US which we eagerly run? We can only think of one word… DESPERATION! The cultural and economic climate in New Jersey is bad enough that those living there engage in theft and vandalism as a competitive business strategy. Whatever the reason…you have been warned to expect the worst, and to count your fingers and toes after every visit.
